Psychological Assessment – Information for CandidatesIf you would like to know what to expect prior to attending a psychological assessment with Allworth Juniper, the information here may be useful to you. Please note, however, these are general details only. As not all people go through the same assessment, you should check with Allworth Juniper directly (Ph: 02 9223 2774) if you would like details about the particular assessment you will undertake. Why use psychological assessment? Many organisations use psychological assessment as a consistent and standardised method of comparing individuals against a wider pool of people across industries and occupations. It provides insights into an individual that cannot always be assessed accurately through other parts of the selection and recruitment process. Assessment is a structured way of gathering information about an individual’s strengths, development areas, preferences and motivators in a number of contexts including: Selection: Assessing the fit between an individual, a role and an organisation. Development: Identifying strengths as well as training and development needs. Promotion: Assessing the potential (capability and personality factors) required for taking the next step. Psychological assessment is just one part of the recruitment and selection process.Psychological assessment is always used in combination with other forms of information about you. The assessment forms just one part of the recruitment and selection process, supplementing information gained from interviews, reference checking, your resumé etc. The aim is to identify any issues that require further checking or confirmation by referees or other sources – not to label candidates according to a personality type. The unique feature of the psychological assessment that differentiates it from other aspects of the process is that your results are quantitative and can therefore be compared statistically against the results of others in similar roles, others in the company and other candidates. It is a standardised method of evaluating individual capabilities and style. What to expect on the day of your assessment.Prior to commencing the assessment, one of our psychologists will spend some
time with you explaining the process including the nature of the tests you will
complete, the time frame and method of reporting to the organisation who has
requested the assessment, and how you can access feedback on your results (all
candidates are entitled to verbal feedback). You will be asked about any factors
that may affect your performance on the day (e.g. lack of sleep, problems with
vision or hearing etc) and will be required to sign a Privacy Disclosure Form
that will enable Allworth Juniper to share your results with the organisation
that has requested the assessment (that is, your prospective future employer).
Please ensure that you ask any questions that you have about the process and
that you are clear about what is involved. The tests. The assessment process is tailored to measure the competencies that are relevant to the role to which you have applied. Candidates for different jobs and for different companies may complete different tests. You should check with Allworth Juniper prior to the assessment if you would like to know what kind of assessment you will complete. As a guide, a typical assessment includes: Ability tests. Three tests measuring your verbal, numerical and abstract problem-solving skills. These tests are timed (taking between 20 and 35 minutes each) and require both speed and accuracy in your analysis and decision-making. These are not knowledge tests and no preparation is necessary. Personality questionnaire. Assessment of job-relevant competencies e.g. planning and organising, drive for results, relationship building, leadership, aiming high, being creative, teamwork etc. Motivation questionnaire. Assessment of factors that drive or motivate your performance e.g., commercial orientation, autonomy, money, power etc. All tests are multiple choice. Some assessments are completed with pencil and paper, others may be completed on-line. Remember, these tests comprise a typical assessment. It is possible that you may be asked to do just some of them or, in some instances, more. You may wish to check with Allworth Juniper if you require specific details about your assessment. To view some samples of these tests, please go to http://www.shl.com/shl/en-int/candidatehelpline and follow the prompts for practice tests. Time required.Prior to your attendance, you should ensure you know how long you will need. If you are unsure, please confirm with Allworth Juniper (02-9223 2774). You can expect to need up to three to four hours (less for shorter assessments). Do I need to bring anything? No other than glasses if you need them. You will be provided with everything else you need. Feedback and reporting of the results. You are entitled to verbal feedback on the results, regardless of the outcome of the selection decision. You will be advised at the time of the assessment of when feedback will be available to you. In most instances, the organisation requesting the assessment will be given verbal feedback on your results within 24 hours of the assessment and a written report within 48 hours. Some hints to help you during the assessment.
